Japanese Mobile Phone Shipment Fell in May

According to data provided by JEITA, in May mobile phone shipment in Japan showed a 1.9% year-on-year fall, the third straight month with a decline, as shipment volume dropped to 3.3 million units. Shipment of 3G mobile phones saw a 36.5% increase however, stimulated by replacement demand. 3G handsets had a share of more than 60% of overall mobile phone shipments for the fifth straight month, with mobile phone shipments also including automobile phone systems. Also, domestic PHS handset shipment grew 49.9% year-on-year to 91,000 units.
